Suicide Prevention Information

The New Jersey Youth Suicide Prevention Advisory Council examines needs and services and makes recommendations to the Department of Children and Families (DCF) for youth reporting, prevention, and intervention. The Council also seeks to educate youth and their families about the resources available for
suicide prevention and post-intervention in an effort to reduce the number of incidents of suicide throughout the State.
Many NJ families have little to no awareness about what the NJ Children’s System of Care (CSOC) can offer. Through the DCF, all children and adolescents have access to coordinated mental health support, substance abuse treatment, and services for intellectual and developmental disabilities - regardless of
insurance status. Too many families who deal with struggling youth do not know where to turn and get lost in the myriad of resources. Click on the Link for more information.

Saint Peter's University's Basketball Team's accomplishments last week have brought an excitement into the city that is hard to replicate. We were elated when St. Peter’s University men’s basketball team beat Monmouth University in early March to make the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Tournament. Now fans are at the edge of our seats as our own Jersey City-based team heads into the Sweet 16 round of the tournament, seeking to take another step closer to the championship game (Hudson Reporter).

P.S.6 STUDENTS FROM ROOM 304 CONNECT SCIENCE AND MATH ANY CHANCE THEY GET!

It has never made sense to me that math and science isn’t taught together more often! We could spend so much less time on covering science topics and math topics if we could look at the curriculum and find the link any chance we can. In this case, it's really easy! Symmetry is introduced in second grade. However, it is revisited again in fourth grade with adding to the lines of symmetry and understanding that objects can have more than one line of symmetry. This lesson lays the foundation of revisiting one line of symmetry, maybe discovering more than one line in the process and connecting their understanding of how reflection works. We then are able to understand light waves and energy more deeply while connecting it to understanding math better too!
