Health Screenings at P.S. #6 J.W. Wakeman Elementary School
Our school nurse, Mrs. Matthews, plays an essential role in supporting the health and well-being of every student at P.S. #6 Wakeman Elementary School. One of her many important responsibilities is conducting annual health screenings for all students in accordance with the New Jersey Administrative Code for Public School Health Services.
Throughout the school year, Mrs. Matthews will conduct screenings for height, weight, blood pressure, vision, hearing, and scoliosis, as outlined below:
Kindergarten: Height, Weight, Blood Pressure, Vision, and Hearing
1st Grade: Height, Weight, Blood Pressure, and Hearing
2nd Grade: Height, Weight, Blood Pressure, Vision, and Hearing
3rd Grade: Height, Weight, Blood Pressure, and Hearing
4th Grade: Height, Weight, Blood Pressure, and Vision
5th Grade: Height, Weight, Blood Pressure, and Scoliosis (for students age 10 and older at the time of screening)
If any screening results fall outside the normal range, parents or guardians will receive a referral letter recommending further evaluation by a healthcare provider. These screenings are an important part of ensuring that our students are healthy, ready to learn, and able to reach their fullest potential.
