Good evening,
I am sure you have many questions in regards to the JCPS reopening plan. I will be as proactive as possible through the process. My goal is to share accurate information rather than speculative information. Mr. Walker announced yesterday that the Jersey City Public Schools plans to reopen on Tuesday, November 17th. The Jersey City Public Schools plan indicates that the first phase of in person instruction is for 33% of the students enrolled in their classroom. For a class of 21 students that would mean 7 students are in the class along with the appropriate staff. Students would be rotated until all the students had a chance to learn in person before repeating the cycle. Students who are not working in person will have synchronous and asynchronous work assigned. With a successful implementation of our first phase of in person instruction we will gradually move on to greater percentages of students in class together.
The Jersey City Public Schools plan for students when they are working remotely from their home will be shared in the coming weeks. Mr. Walker did indicate families will still have the option to learn at home for the entire school year if they wish to do so. The school will be sending more surveys in the future for families to indicate if you wish for your child to return to school physically or if you wish for your child to work remotely for the school year.
Thank you to all the families who took time out of their schedule to attend our virtual back to school night. We had nearly 500 families attend! Your involvement in your child's education has never been more demanding. Thank you!
Please remember to fill out your child's lunch application if you have not done so already.
All the best,
Joseph Apruzzese
